After years of closure, a historic racecourse was getting ready for an exciting reopening. However, a critical failure threatened their opening plans when the site’s essential pump systems, responsible for wastewater and drainage across the kennels, main stand and car park, had succumbed to years of inactivity.
Dura Pump was urgently contacted to assess the situation. Our engineers arrived to conduct a full site survey. The pumps at all three key locations were not only broken but completely seized, blocked and overflowing. The protective kiosks housing the controls were also letting in water.
Essential wastewater and drainage management was non-existent, creating a serious and immediate threat to reopening the venue. The entire network was redundant, posing a significant operational and environmental risk.
Repairing the existing, dilapidated systems was not an option. A full, modern replacement was the only practical solution. Faced with three distinct sites in simultaneous failure and a rapidly approaching reopening deadline, we implemented a decisive action plan:
Emergency Site Clearance: Before any installation work could commence, the blocked and overflowing pumps at all three locations required immediate attention. Tankers were brought in for extensive cleaning and waste removal, creating a safe and workable environment.
System Design & Installation: We specified and installed robust new systems tailored to each location’s needs. High-performance Rotomec submersible cutter pumps were selected for their reliability and effectiveness in handling challenging wastewater. We integrated precise level control systems for automated pump management and installed new, watertight kiosks to replace the old, compromised units, protecting the vital control panels and electrical components from the elements.
To meet the reopening schedule, we knew we had to act quickly with an effective solution. We completed the entire project with remarkable speed and efficiency. From the initial emergency call-out and site assessment to the final commissioning of three brand-new pump systems across the site, the entire project was completed within an impressive four-week timeframe. This rapid response and expert execution ensured the racecourse’s essential services were fully operational on opening day. Our new customer now has a reliable, modern infrastructure and the peace of mind needed to focus on welcoming the crowds back.
