Energy Efficient Washdown System Delivered to Food Factory

Case study header

The Challenge

We were contacted about a food factory washdown system as it was continually failing and in a state of constant repair. The hot and cold water was not mixing correctly and was often too cold, not meeting the 60°C requirement for washdown systems.

This was an urgent project for us and the customer to make sure they were compliant with washing down the factory at the correct temperature.

Proposed Solution

On investigation, we found several issues:

  • The pumps were old, inefficient and in need of replacement.
  • The pipework between the pumps and point of use were failing.
  • The plunger pumps pistons were worn and not sealing correctly.
  • The holding water tank was too small for the level of demand.
  • The system was running at 70 bar which can atomise debris, releasing potential bacteria into the air.

We recommended a new energy-efficient solution which consisted of:

  • Three CRNE Grundfos high speed pumps.
  • The latest HMI300 control panel digital screens to provide at a glance performance.
  • A new ring main, designed to provide the required volume for all washdown hose reels in the factory.
  • A new stainless steel water holding tank with steam heater to control the temperature.
  • A professional and experienced team who accurately specified and delivered a well-planned project, together with an excellent installation, using high quality equipment.

Outcome

The customer’s washdown procedure is now fully compliant. We delivered a modern, energy efficient and reliable system which delivers a superior cleaning water washdown system. The innovative technology delivers reduced power consumption and will save the customer money both in running and maintenance costs.
