We were recently called in by CBRE, the commercial property advisors, to investigate the failure of several cold-water booster sets at the Oracle head office in Reading.
The building was set up with two twin cold-water booster sets and when we inspected them, the issues were apparent; they were old and had already failed several times. The system was running on a temporary set up due to the frequent failures, and a cost-effective, reliable solution was needed.
We carried out a thorough analysis, reviewed what function the sets were performing, and what the needs of the system were.
To provide the best value for money, create a reliable system, and ultimately save costs in reduced energy usage, the solution we recommended was to replace the whole system. We identified that if we incorporated both fixed speed pump sets into one variable speed system, we could reduce the number of pumps to a total of 3. We also recognised that one of the pumps would run optimally with a reduced motor size, saving even more energy.
We removed the twin sets and carried out the installation work at the weekend, so as not to disrupt any staff at the premises. We completed the work quicker than expected, which resulted in less downtime, satisfying everyone involved with the project.
Contractor Compliance Manager at CBRE commented, “A big thank-you to everyone at Dura Pump for installing the three sets in one weekend, great effort.” Since carrying out the work, we have subsequently replaced three more cold-water booster sets at the same premises, achieving similar results.
