Dura Pump received a request from a prominent breakfast/cereal manufacturer due to a critical malt pump being on a lengthy 20-week lead time. The situation and the potential consequences of extended downtime were too significant to ignore. The pump in question was a specialized hygienic lobe pump equipped with heating jackets and a double mechanical seal, making it a non-standard, meaning it was not available as an off-the-shelf item.
Our technical team promptly visited the site to assess the application and the existing pump unit. After determining the pump’s duty and requirements, we tapped into our extensive network of manufacturers to expedite the solution. Fortunately, we identified an Alfa Laval lobe pump that perfectly matched the existing pump’s duty, complete with heating jackets, a double mechanical seal, and a motor. This alternative was available in just three weeks, requiring only minor pipe work adjustments. We presented this proposal to the customer, and not only did it come with a shorter lead time, but it also proved to be more cost-effective than their current unit. Consequently, the customer placed an order, and the new pump was delivered within a mere 12 working days.
By ensuring the renowned cereal manufacturing company had a spare pump in place to replace any potential production line failures, we eliminated the risk of breakfast not being on the table. This proactive measure significantly reduced the pressure on the engineering team and safeguarded the company’s profitability. Once again, Dura Pump demonstrated its expertise in providing tailored solutions to meet our customer’s needs.
