Self Priming Pumps
What is a self priming pump? Self priming pumps are a type of centrifugal pump designed with a priming chamber located ahead of the impeller. This allows it to draw water from sumps positioned below the pump. Once the self priming pump is initially primed, it can automatically re-prime itself during regular operation without any need for manual intervention.
The self prime pumps work by using a rotating impeller inside a large casing to move water or other fluids through centrifugal force.
Self priming pumps are particularly well-suited for fluid transfer and high-flow applications. While they typically have a single impeller, which can limit pressure, multi-stage versions are available to address this. These self priming water pumps are commonly used in areas such as water supply, sewage handling, agriculture, and in the and petrochemical industries. They are available with multiple impellers, making them ideal for boosting water supply pressure and rain harvesting applications. Self Priming Water Pumps for Waste
Self-priming pumps with a larger solids-handling capacity, often known as trash pumps, are commonly used in wastewater applications. They can draw water from wastewater or sewage tanks without being submerged in the liquid. These pumps can also be fitted with a built-in or external macerator to help reduce the risk of blockages. They are ideal for temporary setups or flood response, as only a hose or pipe needs to be placed in the water.
They are also a great choice for wastewater with high chemical content, as only limited parts of the pump come into contact with the liquid. It’s important to note that they are typically effective for lifting water up to a maximum height of 7 meters.
Self-Priming Positive Displacement Pump
Positive displacement pumps can be used for self priming, for example: Lobe pumps, progressive cavity pumps, diaphragm pumps, twin screw pumps, eccentric pumps and peristaltic pumps.
