Fire Pumps, Fire Pump sets or Hydrant Pumps are the solution to provide a volume of water to sprinkler system, hose reel or fire hydrant. Depending on your application, the correct specification of pump and system will need to be installed and maintained according to regulations.
- Fire Fighting Systems
- In-line pumps
- High Pressure Pumps
- Pressure booster systems
Usually a fire pump set will pump cold water, from a large holding tank. The fire set is activated through a drop in pressure in the system, and will continue to run until the correct pressure is met again.
The main purpose of a fire pump set is to supply large volumes of water to a building in the event of a fire. These are commonly found in high density housing accommodation, Prisons, Hospitals, Manufacturing sites or high hazardous areas. There are different hazardous categories in the UK, that is defined by a number of criteria and given a hazard category.
Dura Pump are able to assist you to ensure the correct pump set is specified, to meet the required standards, and provide ongoing maintenance to give you peace of mind that your building is protected.
The standard categories in the UK are:
- OH1
Large schools, offices, hospitals, hotels, restaurants, libraries, dairies, cement works, sheet metal producers and abattoirs. - OH2
Museums, bakeries, breweries, photographic labs and car workshops. - OH3
Shopping centres, supermarkets, industrial processes and buildings with a highly combustible load. - HH
High hazard applications are storage, distribution facilities, areas where chemicals exist and high rise buildings
Effective fire protection places high demands on fire-fighting systems
In Germany alone, a fire breaks out on average every three minutes. The earlier its spread can be tackled, the lower the damage. This is why engineers often equip modern industrial plants and buildings with automatic fire-fighting systems. But fire-fighting systems have to meet exacting requirements: Despite only operating for short periods, the pumps must quickly deliver their full performance in the event of a fire as well as offering high levels of corrosion resistance in general. Various fire-fighting techniques impose additional demands: Water spray systems operate at particularly high pressures, and foam extinguishing systems require pumps built from materials impervious to the medium.
