Keeping spirits pumped for a leading supplier

The Challenge

A leading manufacturer of alcohol, vinegar and condiments to the drinks manufacturing market was looking to invest in two new transfer pumps for their alcohol and vinegar operations, respectively.

Both types of transfer pumps are also known as chemical pumps and are specially designed to transfer and handle corrosive, abrasive and acidic fluids. They must adhere to industry standards and safety protocols to ensure proper handling and performance.

The customer had different requirements for the manufacturing and handling of each of these fluids and it was our job to find the best solution for each.

The Solution

Solution one for the alcohol pump

We recommended a Liverani GR ADPE side channel transfer pump mounted on a stainless-steel trolley with motor starter to provide a varied flow. This type of pump is also explosion proof which is required for pumps that handle alcohol. We also recommended a flow meter on the pump discharge to provide measurement of data on flow performance for quality monitoring purposes.

Solution two for the vinegar pump

We recommended a Liverani EP Major pump which is similar to a centrifugal pump but the impeller vanes flex and bend as liquid is forced through. We again mounted this on a stainless-steel trolley with motor starter and flow meter.

Both pumps were fully assembled and tested at our head office before being delivered to our customer.

The Outcome

Installing new transfer pumps for this customer has resulted in:

  1. Enhanced efficiency: Designed with the latest technology to transfer liquids more quickly and with higher precision. This reduces overall processing time.
  2. Energy savings: Modern transfer pumps are often engineered for energy efficiency. Upgrading to newer models can lead to reduced energy consumption, lowering operational costs.
  3. Reliability and reduced downtime: New pumps are more reliable, with improved components and design. This helps reduce the risk of breakdowns and downtime.
  4. Increased productivity: Faster transfer rates and reduced downtime contribute to increased overall productivity.
  5. Compliance with Regulations: Food and beverage manufacturing has ever-evolving regulations. Newer transfer pumps are designed to comply with the latest environmental and safety regulations, helping companies ensure proper handling and performance.

Finally, our expert knowledge in building bespoke systems specific to needs resulted in the new transfer pumps being customised to meet this customer’s operational requirements.
