Out of hours booster set replacement for His Majesty’s Prison Service
The Challenge
One of the largest prisons in the UK required the planned replacement of a booster set serving an administrative building. The project called for a carefully coordinated installation that could be completed outside normal working hours while minimising disruption to the site.
The works therefore needed to be completed on a Saturday between 7:00am and 4:00pm, creating a restricted working window in which the existing equipment had to be isolated, replacement works undertaken and the system returned to service.
In addition to the original scope of works, the customer requested that additional isolation valves be installed closer to the booster set. This would improve local isolation and make future maintenance and servicing of the equipment more straightforward.
The key requirements were:
- Complete the booster set replacement outside normal working hours.
- Work within the agreed Saturday access window.
- Minimise disruption to the operation of the building.
- Install two additional valves to the booster set.
- Coordinate labour and resources to ensure the system could be returned to service promptly.
The Solution
Dura Pump planned the works specifically around the site’s operational requirements, allocating two engineers for the Saturday installation and arranging the necessary materials in advance.
The team attended the prison during the agreed out-of-hours window and carried out the booster set replacement in accordance with the previously agreed scope.
As part of the revised installation, two additional valves were fitted closer to the booster set. Their positioning provides improved local isolation of the equipment, making future servicing, maintenance and replacement activities easier to manage.
By preparing the required equipment, fittings and labour ahead of the scheduled works, Dura Pump was able to make effective use of the limited installation window and reduce the amount of time the associated system needed to remain isolated.
The Outcome
The revised programme enabled the booster set works to be undertaken outside normal operational hours, helping to minimise disruption to the prison and the users of the building.
The installation of the additional valves also provided a practical long-term improvement to the system. With isolation now available closer to the booster set, future maintenance can be carried out more efficiently and with greater control over the affected section of the system.
Through careful planning, flexible out-of-hours working and an installation tailored to the customer’s operational requirements, Dura Pump delivered a solution, focused not only on replacing essential equipment, but also on improving its future serviceability.
The result: a renewed booster system, improved local isolation and a solution delivered around the needs of the site.
