University Building Fill and Spill System Upgrade
The Challenge
A university customer contacted Dura Pump following issues with the fill and spill system serving their botanic plant research facility.
Following investigation, it was identified that the existing system was undersized and unable to meet the required performance specification. As a result, the system was not operating correctly, creating reliability concerns for the building and increasing the risk of ongoing system failures.
Because the existing setup could not deliver the required performance, a standard replacement was not considered the best solution. The university needed a bespoke fill and spill system designed around the specific requirements of the building, with the correct controls, pumps and monitoring equipment to ensure reliable operation.
The Solution
Dura Pump recommended a fully bespoke fill and spill system, designed, built and programmed in-house before installation on site.
The system was assembled and programmed in Dura Pump’s workshop, allowing the control system, HMI and PLC to be tested before being delivered to the university. This helped reduce installation risk and ensured the new system was ready to meet the required operating specification.
Dura Pump engineers attended site to electrically and mechanically isolate the existing system before safely removing and disposing of it.
The new system included:
- A stainless steel tank and skid assembly
- Control panel
- HMI/PLC for user interface and system control
- Pressure sensors and switches for real-time feedback
- Grundfos pumps
Once installed, Dura Pump finalised the programme settings on site before fully testing and commissioning the system.
The Outcome
The university now has a bespoke fill and spill system designed specifically for the requirements of their botanic plant research facility.
The new system provides improved reliability, correct system performance and better control through real-time feedback from pressure sensors and switches. The HMI/PLC control panel gives the site team a clear user interface and allows the system to operate automatically and efficiently.
