Replacement of a Cold-Water Booster Set for a Well-Known Premier League Football Club

The Challenge

Premier League team Aston Villa Football Club was looking for a pump supplier to replace an existing cold-water booster set that had reached its end of life. Situated under the Holte End of their stadium, the existing set was a fixed-speed, old and obsolete Grundfos twin set, which was causing problems for the club, hindering their ability to provide good facilities, especially on match days. Our engineers recommended that the best option would be a complete replacement booster set.

Our Solution

Our solution was to specify, supply, install and commission a twin Dura Pump booster set with Lowara variable speed pumps. The same configuration of pipework on the existing booster set was no longer available, so pipework modifications were required on the new booster set to connect into the existing tank and discharge pipework. We used crimped copper pipework for a quick installation and flexible connections onto the booster set to reduce the chance of vibration.

The new twin booster set is a fully automatic booster set for water supply. It is equipped with 2no. Lowara pumps with inverter pump controllers, pressure transmitters and control panel, all mounted on a frame for easy installation. The pump controller is easy to programme, can communicate with a BMS system and is designed for maximum energy efficiency.

Twin booster set consists of:

  • 2no. Lowara 10HM04 230v 1.5kW pumps coupled in parallel
  • Duty/Standby modes
  • Mild steel base plate
  • 2″ stainless steel discharge manifold
  • 2.5″ stainless steel suction manifold
  • 2no. non-return valves
  • 4no. isolation valves
  • Pressure gauge
  • Pressure transmitter
  • Pressure vessels
  • On/off-switch for the supply

Our installation included the pipework and electrical connections, setting up and commissioning.

The Result

With a new variable-speed booster set, our customer benefited greatly from having more flexibility to meet demand, constant water pressure, energy savings from greater system efficiency and reduced wear on pipework and valves.

In addition, the client only needed to be in contact with one contractor, Dura Pump, who could take the job from specification right through to commissioning.
