Bicester Eco Town: foul pump station
The Challenge
In 2015, the engineers at Dura Pump were called in to supply and install vital, large-scale pumping equipment at the Bicester Eco Town development.
A foul pump system for the new Eco-Town had been designed to include a concrete chamber approximately 14 meters deep and eight meters in diameter, incorporating pumps, dosing systems, an MCC panel and level control. The purpose of the system was to remove waste from hundreds of houses and into the main Thames Water sewers system and also have a 30-day storage capacity, should Thames Water have an issue with the quantity of waste.
Our challenge was to supply the correct parts and carry out the installation in a safe and timely manner. As the system had to be adopted by Thames Water, all works had to be to Sewers for Adoption 7th Edition standards.
The Solution
We worked with property construction and development experts, Wilmott Dixon, and the water supplier, Thames Water, in order to carry out the specified work for A2Dominion at the Bicester Eco-Development.
We supplied and installed the complete sewage pump system, specifying Grundfos SLV Pumps with 11kW motors. These pumps are powered by Danfoss variable speed drives and the system level is controlled through a Siemens Hydroranger allowing the sewage inflow to be dosed accordingly to manage the septicity levels.
The Outcome
All work was carried out safely and to the standards of Sewers for Adoption 7th Edition, and the sewage pumping system is now fully operational on site.
