Get in touchWater enters the pump directly through the volute, typically located at the base. A submersible pump is also commonly referred to as sub pumps or sump pumps. They are designed with a water-tight seal around the body and motor, allowing them to function underwater without damage.
Sump pumps are widely used in applications involving wastewater, stormwater and effluent. There are different types of dirty water pumps to suit various fluids and operational needs. Choosing the correct type is critical for long-term reliability and optimal efficiency. See the options below:
Vortex Submersible Pumps
Vortex Impeller submersible pumps are self-contained units featuring a sealed motor and a vortex impeller. The impeller creates a whirlpool effect that enables efficient pumping when fully submerged.
- Large clear passage
- Excellent solid-handling capacity
- Significantly reduces blockages
- Common uses: Sewage, foul water, effluent, stormwater and drainage.
Channel Submersible Pumps
Channel Impeller submersible pumps work by allowing liquid to pass directly through the impeller. Although they have a smaller clear passage than vortex pumps, they offer greater efficiency, making them ideal for applications with lower solids content.
- Can include multiple channels of varying sizes
- Allows passage of impurities up to a certain size
- May clog with fibrous impurities
- Efficiency levels up to 80–85%
- Common uses: Stormwater, grey water, and drainage.
Grinder/Cutter Submersible Pump
Grinder and cutter submersible pumps are centrifugal pumps equipped with cutting systems at the inlet. These systems break down larger particles and fibrous material into a manageable slurry. Grinder pumps are suited for systems with smaller pipe diameters and low flow, while cutter pumps are ideal for demanding applications with high solids and fibres.
- Greatly reduces clogging risk
- Suitable for small pipe diameters
- Requires ongoing maintenance and spares
- Common uses: Sewage, foul water and effluent.
Sump Pumps
Sump pumps are small submersible pumps, perfect for the emptying of sump pits, rainwater tanks and emergency de-watering & drainage of basements and cellars. Suited for domestic and light commercial use.
